Over 24 million in America have diabetes. There are specific methods for diabetes care that can help combat the disease and it involves changing the prior life styles and diet and exercise routines. The fact some diabetics require daily insulin via either injection or oral medication is an extra liability many have to carry with their lives. Yet what they don’t know is that they can lower the need of the insulin substitutes with new practices in their lives.

Some of the daily diabetes care methods used by diabetics includes a change of diet. The diet is very important with having diabetes. Since the body is not able to produce insulin or change the glucose from sugar into energy, the diet needs to be changed to avoid becoming overweight or consuming the foods that will raise the sugar levels in the body.

A person with diabetes needs to avoid sugary or starchy foods. Starch in the foods is converted into sugar in the body so this is one of the major food groups that need to be avoided for health reasons to help regulate the levels of glucose in the bloodstream.

It is recommended that a diabetic keep record of the daily monitored results so they can keep track of any changes requiring additional insulin and to know if they are eating correctly. When monitoring the levels of the blood, the results will state if the levels are too high or  too low so the diabetic will know if they need to take their medication or if they are currently at a level that is acceptable.

Exercise is an essential part of the diabetes care routine. Exercise lowers the body’s level of sugar in the bloodstream as well as aids in weight loss. The exercise also allows the cells in the body to accept insulin more efficiently, which then will lower the amounts of sugar in the bloodstream.

Weight management is one of the most difficult aspects of diabetes care. Fats cells are more resistant to insulin compared to lean muscle cells. The fat cells make it harder for the body to use the insulin and maintaining a better sugar level in the bloodstream. For this reason, many physicians recommend the diabetic lose weight and have regular exercise routines to maintain a healthier body weight.

Living with diabetes is something many people do easily once they learn to change their prior living habits. They are able to take control of the glucose levels with the healthy diet and exercise as well as medication if still needed for the proper levels of insulin.
